Pop-Up Sprinklers, Explained
Pop-up sprinklers sit flush with your lawn, hidden underground. When the system runs, water pressure pushes the heads up, they water the grass evenly, then they drop back down out of sight when finished. Nothing sticks out, nothing to trip over, nothing to mow around.
They rise on water pressure – not electricity. A pump is usually needed to deliver that pressure (only a heavily elevated tank can run on gravity alone). Most people in Karachi run the system manually: turn on the pump, open the valve, done. It can also be fully automated with solenoid valves and a controller, though that adds cost and most clients keep it simple.

02 · Any Lawn Size
"Sprinklers Are Only for Big Lawns" – Not True
This is the biggest misconception we hear: that sprinklers are only for large lawns, football grounds or society parks. They're not. A 10×10 ft patch is a perfectly good starting point. Even a side strip of 6×10 ft running along a wall is worth doing properly. Big is no problem either – we've covered everything from tiny home gardens to full grounds.
Spray heads or rotors?
We match the head type to your lawn's dimensions:
- Pop-up spray heads – best when both sides of the area are less than ~30 ft. Ideal for small and medium home gardens.
- Pop-up rotors – best when one side is more than ~30 ft. They throw water further, so they cover large lawns and grounds efficiently.

03 · Done Right
The Mistake That Causes Yellow Patches
Here's where inexperienced installers and cost-cutters go wrong. If a sprinkler's radius is 15 ft, they assume one head covers 15 ft, the next covers another 15 ft, so they place them 30 ft apart. It looks logical. It's a blunder.
The problem: a sprinkler doesn't deliver the same amount of water at its 15th foot as it does at its 1st foot – the throw weakens toward the edge. Space them at the full radius and you get dry, yellow patches exactly where two weak edges meet.
Done correctly, the next sprinkler goes at around the 15 ft mark – overlapping the previous one – so coverage stays uniform across the whole lawn. (The exact spacing varies; this is just the principle.) Proper head-to-head overlap is the difference between a lawn that's evenly green and one that's patchy. It costs a little more in heads and pipe, and it's the right way to do it.

"Will It Damage My Lawn?"
Will installation dig up my garden?
For pop-up systems, yes, some digging is needed – but only to bury the pipe, around 8 inches deep and about a foot wide along the pipe route. It's temporary; the grass recovers and nothing shows afterward.
Will I trip on the sprinklers or hit them while walking?
No. Installed by professionals, the heads sit flush underground and only rise when running. This worry mostly comes up for playgrounds and football grounds – and it's handled.
Will they break if I step on them?
No, when installed properly. We use swivel fittings so the heads flex instead of snapping – important on grounds and high-traffic lawns.
How do they rise – electricity?
No, they rise on water pressure. A pump usually provides it; gravity works only with a heavily elevated tank.
Can it run on a septic / recycled water tank?

This Is an Investment, Not a Cost
Sprinklers are full of sub-standard products too, and plenty of installers cut corners – the most common being to space the heads too far apart to save on materials. As we explained above, that's exactly what causes yellow patches. Cheap heads, thin pipe and wide spacing look cheaper on the quote and cost you a patchy, failing lawn within a year or two.
